For the first time, I noticed lamb specifically advertised as "Australian" on the large display signs at the grocery store butcher's counter. Normally I can only find the country of origin by reading the packaging. Nowadays, it's important to know where your food is coming from--this was really helpful! (and I bought more lamb!)
Speaking of lamb at the grocery store, I have just returned from living in the USA for 6 months. Couldn't believe the price of lamb cutlets in Brisbane Australia ($36/kg) over the weekend when I was paying between $4-8/lb ($8.80-17.60/kg) in Philadelphia!! Even taking the conversion factor for USD to AUD into consideration, I would be interested to know if anyone can shed any light on how we can export A-grade lamb to the US and sell it for such a low price.
Wow! I live in Maryland and the cutlets here are $13/lb US. When I see them on sale for $10/lb US I'm feeling lucky. I'd love to find them for as low as $4/lb! Does anyone know of grocery store in MD that has those lower prices? What grocery store did you find those prices at in PA, steveg?
